The 2011 Premier League Asia Trophy kicks off with Aston Villa facing Blackburn Rovers. The match will take place at the Hong Kong Stadium in So Kon Po, Hong Kong Island on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 BST (UK time), 12:00 CET (Central Europe), and 06:00 EST (USA Eastern).

Aston Villa manager Alex McCleish

“I know how difficult it is for the players.

“I have trained and played in pre-season before and it can be very tough.

“But equally the players will be playing against some teams that they know and it gives it a little bit of an edge to be playing against a Barclays Premier League team in the first game.

“We will want to win. I don’t think anyone likes losing friendlies especially when you are coming up against one of your rivals.”

Blackburn manager Steve Kean

“The Barclays Asia Trophy is a tournament we are all thoroughly looking forward to.”

“Hong Kong has made us feel very welcome, they are football mad over here, the TV channels are all showing last season’s games all day.

“We know that the matches are going to be sold out so we are delighted to be here and part of it.

“Pre-season has gone very well for us so far. We had a good week in Austria where the boys trained hard three times a day, 7am, 10am and then in the evening.

“On our return we had another week’s training and then two good matches against local sides Accrington and Morecambe.

“Now we look forward to the matches here in Hong Kong starting with Aston Villa. We seem to play them in every cup competition each year, so it is no surprise that we are playing them again.”

Blackburn player Ryan Nelsen

“I’ve travelled through Hong Kong before but this is my first time staying here.”

“It’s a gorgeous city and the people are amazingly friendly and mad about football.

“The boys are enjoying being here and loving the weather. Yes the heat makes training a different challenge but it is much better training in the sunshine.

“It’s fantastic to get away from the rain and wind at Blackburn. We’re very happy, we absolutely love it.

“The reception we received upon arriving was unreal, everyone has made us feel very welcome here.

“I’ve played in just about every other Asian country but not Hong Kong, so I can’t wait to be involved in the games.”
