Well race fans, the beginning of the 2011 season is just about here. Sprint Cup testing at Daytona is complete. Everyone is fitted and suited by this point. There are a lot of new things and changes to talk about in the NNS so let’s get to it.

First and foremost is the change of how the series will be run. No longer will drivers be able to compete in multiple series for a championship. They must choose at the beginning of the season which of the three NASCAR sanctioned series they will commit to compete for a championship and run full time.

Will this keep drivers from driving in multiple series? Probably not, but if the sponsors know there won’t be a huge pay day at the end of the season, they will most likely influence how many races said driver participates in (by how involved they are financially). Keep in mind that sponsorship dollars for this series are a lot more reasonable than on the Cup side and if a Cup driver can run in the NNS and be successful, those victory celebrations are still very sweet.

This change was announced officially on Saturday, January 22 by Mike Helton. However, the points system hasn’t been rolled out yet. Stay tuned for further developments on this very popular and controversial topic.
