HISTORY In round six, Adelaide gave up a five-goal lead, then found something late to win by 19 points. For the rest of the season, they have been unable to hold on to such leads. St Kilda was in an horrendous slump, and would not win for another three weeks. The Saints have won six of the previous nine matches between the clubs, including four straight at Docklands.
VERDICT
St Kilda runs the risk of fatigue, having dug itself such a deep hole with its diabolical start to the season. However, the Saints showed no signs off faltering with their strong finish against the impressive Eagles last start, and they will not let up yet against such a brittle opponent. Adelaide simply cannot sustain the frenzied running game it needs to use for long enough. The inclusion of Taylor Walker will give lone spearhead Kurt Tippett some respite, but Walker has not played since round ten, and is unlikely to make a huge impact in his first game back. St Kilda looks to have the form, experience, in-form stars, depth of running options and fitness to withstand anything Adelaide can throw at them.
