Match Information:

Cardiff  faceTo face  Brighton
at Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday

AUGUST 17, 2011. KICK-OFF 19:45 BST

Cardiff midfielder Aron Gunnarsson is a doubt to face Brighton.

The Iceland international limped out of Cardiff's 3-1 Championship win over Bristol City in the 10th minute and underwent a MRI scan on Monday to discover the extent of his ankle injury.

Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay is nonetheless hopeful Gunnarsson will be fit for Wednesday's game.

"He rolled his ankle and we'll send him for a scan,'' confirmed Mackay.

"It is disappointing as we have not got a big squad and it is something that is in the hands of a good medical team.''

Gunnarsson was one of nine summer signings by Mackay after 12 players left following Cardiff's failed play-off campaign last season.

Brighton striker Will Buckley has been ruled out of the trip to Wales.

The £1million summer signing from Watford, who scored twice on his debut against Doncaster last week, will be sidelined for a fortnight after suffering a hamstring injury at Portsmouth on Saturday.

Craig Noone replaced Buckley at Fratton Park and could be handed his first league start of the season, although fellow wingers Kazenga LuaLua (hamstring) and Will Hoskins (hip) may be back in contention.

Defenders Adam El-Abd (foot) and Tommy Elphick (Achilles) are set to return to training after recovering from the injuries they suffered at the end of last season, but they remain a couple of weeks away from potential first-team starts.
