Schalke will head to Cluj for their opening Europa League Group J clash with Steaua Bucharest upbeat over their prospects despite their Bundesliga setback last weekend.
The Royal Blues - Champions League semi-finalists last term - suffered their second league defeat of the campaign on Sunday when they went down 2-1 at Wolfsburg, but captain Benedikt Howedes does not think that result will affect his team-mates on Thursday.
"We should not be hanging our heads,'' he said. "We can fly to Romania with confidence.''
Defensive midfielder Joel Matip added on www.schalke04.de: "We want to start with a good result in the competition.
"After the game in Romania, we will know where we stand.''
The match will be contested in Cluj as the pitch at the national stadium in Bucharest is unplayable.
"This is all very frustrating for us and in particular for our supporters,'' said Schalke general manager Horst Heldt.
"We did our utmost to come up with a different solution, but that's the decision UEFA have made.''
Schalke's Romanian striker Ciprian Marica hopes the change in venue will prove beneficial to his team.
