The Bad Girls Club: New Orleans is the seventh season of the Oxygen reality television series The Bad Girls Club. Originally scheduled to air on July 11, 2011, the date was pushed back to August 1, 2011. Filming began in February 2011 in Kenner. Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. This is the second season to take place in a different location from Los Angeles, California; the first being season five, which was filmed in Miami, Florida. On February 16, 2011 it was reported that production was being done at former Hornets basketball coach Byron Scott house in Kenner, Louisiana for the then called, “Bad Girls Boot Camp”.A group of rebellious women are put in a house together in an experiment intended to moderate their behavior. These women have issues with anger, trust and control, and claim they want to change. Will living together help them move forward and turn their lives around -- or will chaos rule?The format of the show changed from antecedent seasons. If any rule breaches, the “bad girl” who broke the rule will be evicted from the show and will be replaced – if early in the season – by a new “bad girl”. To date, there have been six complete seasons’ of The Bad Girls Club, with the seventh season currently airing on Oxygen. The fourth season had the highest-ratings in Bad Girls’ history, becoming the “breakthrough season” for the show.[3]
The show is broadcast in five different countries worldwide. The Bad Girls Club received negative criticism from television critics because of its pro-violence and addiction from adolescents who emulate the show. The show also spawned several controversies from cast-members who spewed comments and opinions that outraged many viewers of the show. There has been three spin-offs of The Bad Girls Club, most notably Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too, where alumni cast-members seek true love, has become a ratings success. Oxygen has also released a mobile game, comic strip and merchandise in promotion for the show.
Of the 61 contestants, Kerry Harvick (of season one) became a successful country singer after the show.[4] Tanisha Thomas (of season two) became a host for Oxygen’s OxygenLive! and of the second season of “Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too”. Amber Meade, Amber Buhl, Sarah Michaels, Kendra Jones, Natalie Nunn and Lea Beaulieu have competed in the “Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too” series.
