Mark Wright's segments felt perhaps the most forced though as he searched for some mind and body harmony at a yoga class, just happening to be paired with a 'bootiful gil' and winding up essentially recreating that famous Eric Prydz video, surrounded by fake boobs. And just one episode after taking a vow of celibacy too, what are the chances?

What’s interesting is how everyone’s handling their relationship status shifts since the end of Season 2. Mark and Lauren’s emotional farewell was a lot less confrontational than any of us (including, it would seem, Lauren herself) were expecting. That, and Mark’s opening scene with Arg, do reek slightly of a PR stunt (“look at me, I’m nice now”) but that’s something we’ll have to give him the benefit of the doubt over.

Sam and Joey’s post-mortem discussion was a lot more heated, and there are clearly going to be fireworks continuing with these two over the next few episodes. Sam (paired with Harry, hair dyed brown – Amy, is that you?) remains a fundamentally likeable character who just keeps doing annoying things, whilst Joey – God love him – is making the most of being promoted to the opening credits by continuing to be the most fascinatingly IQ-lacking human being in television history.

In terms of the comedy, it was all about Gemma tonight. The sincerity with which she speaks utter shite is just amazing. “I love a bit of crystalisation, don’t I?” she said earnestly when revealing her new look to Harry and Sam, and she’s one of the characters we’ll all be really rooting for as she hunts for a new beau.

As for the new characters, I was left a little cold. The twins will either flop or take a while to warm up, and we can only assume that the casting of Mario is an attempt to fill the vacancy for Resident Prick that has apparently been left open by a reformed Mark.

In short, TOWIE has lost none of its sparkle over the summer and continues to be ludicrously addictive television. It is trashy TV at its trashiest, but it’s simultaneously an easy highlight of the viewing week. The problems it has are inherent and, I suppose, won’t be fixed – i.e. the conversations that have a definite whiff of “ooh I’ve been told to say something like this in this scene” – but that has never really been in an issue in the past, and it’s not going to start being an issue now.TOWIE took a break from the bars of Essex on Wednesday, with the cast doing a hard day's graft.
But all of the situations they found themselves in felt a little too staged, as TOWIE tries to keep up the personas created in the first two seasons.
We had Harry Derbidge selling pansies (essentially shouting 'pansy' for comedic effect), Gemma conducting a gym class in the park and Joey Essex misunderstanding exactly what a car boot sale is.
