It is the first meeting between the teams since Mick McCarthy's men escaped Premier League relegation at the expense of Birmingham last season.

Relegation capped a topsy-turvy 2011 for the Blues, who won the League Cup to make a return to European football.

Chris Hughton's side are aiming to make an instant return to the top-flight from the Championship, while Wolves again face a relegation battle.

They have earned three draws in their last four top-flight games as they remain just three points from the foot of the table.

Birmingham boss Hughton can call on the likes of fit-again duo Jordon Mutch and Liam Ridgewell as well as Wade Elliot and Morgaro Gomis coming into his plans.

Captain Stephen Carr (knee) is the only definite injury-enforced absentee, while a couple of unnamed players carrying knocks will also be assessed.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

• Wolves have not won in six league and cup games. They have only beaten Blackburn and Northampton on the road this season in their first two matches away from Molineux.

• Wanderers, who won the FA Cup for the fourth time in their history in 1960, have gone out at the fourth round stage in seven of the last eight years, including the most recent three.

• Fellow Midland club Stoke ended their interest last season, and Championship outfit Crystal Palace knocked them out in 2010.
