Indeed, they’ve lost just once in their last six matches which was a defeat at Ipswich Town, but they have built momentum at a crucial stage and could be dark horses for a play-off place come May. Their home record stands at 7-2-4 19/14, and have also won their last three at Pride Park on the trot.
Striker Theo Robinson (6 goals, 2 assists) leads the scoring, along with midfielder Steve Davies (5 goals) with support from midfielder Craig Bryson (4 goals, 2 assists) and forward Jamie Ward (3 goals, 4 assists). The bulk of their creativity has been supplied in the main by Ben Davies (1 goal, 8 assists).
Their opponents this afternoon, Coventry City, have endured a wretched season so far and is reflected by their league standing of 24th, three points adrift of Doncaster Rovers above them and seven points off Millwall who occupy that last place of safety.
Despite winning two on the trot recently with wins over Bristol City and Brighton, these wins were at home and their away form is what I concentrate on here; they remain the only team in the Championship yet to record an away win and have an away record of 0-3-9 6/20, and it comes as no surprise they are also the league’s lowest goalscorers on the road.
The Sky Blues have also lost their last five on the road on the trot with losses at Millwall (ouch), Brighton, Portsmouth, Peterborough United and West Ham conceding 9 goals and scoring just 2.
In the last three meetings between these two clubs at Pride Park, Derby have held the upper hand with a 2-2 draw preceded by two 2-1 wins for The Rams – a trend that I can see continuing here today. I’m pleasantly surprised by the odds on offer for a Derby home win so I’ll back them with a possible scoreline of 2-0.
