MATCH PREVIEW

David Moyes celebrates a decade in charge of Everton on Wednesday, during which time the club have seen many highs, but one thing he has not yet achieved is a highly prized win at Anfield. He boasts a decent record of five draws from nine away encounters with Liverpool but how he and the Toffees fans would love to take those elusive three points back across Stanley Park with them. The visitors have not tasted an away victory in this fixture since Kevin Campbell's winner in 1999 as Walter Smith's side overcame Gerard Houllier's men.

Everton manager David Moyes

It will not have escaped Moyes's attention that his upwardly-mobile Everton side will move ahead of misfiring Liverpool in the league table if they are victorious. The last time the Toffees were above their city rivals after 28 games of a Premier League season was seven years ago, when Everton eventually finished in fourth place in the table - one position clear of the Reds. It was also the last time they finished above Liverpool come the end of the season.

With a home FA Cup date with Sunderland looming at the weekend, Moyes will acknowledge his decade anniversary with that now familiar steely look in his eye, while targeting real celebrations come the end of the season.

A Merseyside derby looks like just the fixture the Liverpool squad need right now to refocus their minds. Defeat at Sunderland last weekend saw Kenny Dalglish's side slip to three successive league defeats for the first time since 2003 - the last time they lost four on the spin? Ironically a decade ago in late 2002.

The Reds' mini-slump looks to have all but ended any lingering Champions League qualification hopes with Arsenal, one of the sides to beat them during this period, now well clear of them. Fit-again captain Steven Gerrard, set for a landmark occasion of his own by playing in his 400th Premier League match, has issued a rallying call to his team-mates claiming the consistency levels are "just not good enough".

Gerrard, who picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty with England, made his comeback as a substitute against Sunderland and is targeting an end of season surge back up the league table, as well as further progress in the FA Cup. Stoke City travel to Anfield in the quarter finals on Sunday.
