Last Thursday AZ was blown away in Valencia losing 4-0, meaning a quarter-final exit in the Europe League and allowing team manager Verbeek to put his focus on the last six games in the Eredivisie.
In the game against Vitesse the team from Alkmaar grabbed the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Altidore (att). However, three minutes later Vitesse levelled the score and even took the lead early in the second half.
A curious goal from Poulsen (def) brought AZ back in the game but the team saw Holman (att) picking up his second yellow card of the game and the striker was sent off. AZ tried to force their way to the winning goal but it was Vitesse with the better chances and AZ was lucky to escape with a point.
For the game against FC Twente the AZ Alkmaar team will be without the suspended Holman (att) while apart from the striker, team manager Verbeek is expected to field the same team as against Valencia with Gudmundsson (att) most likely replacing Holman (att).

FC Twente will come into this game fully rested after their 2-0 home win over Roda JC last week, not having European obligations after being eliminated by Schalke ’04 in the previous round. The team is sitting in the third place of the ranking being three points down on the leaders Ajax and FC Twente actually can’t afford a defeat in Alkmaar to preserve their title chances.
FC Twente booked a 2-0 win over Roda JC in the previous round thanks to goals from Douglas (def) and Verhoek (att) with latter making his debut for FC Twente.
On the downside both Brama (def) and Janssen (mid) picked up a yellow card against Roda JC and both players will be suspended for the game against AZ. Good news is the possible return of De Jong (att) who has recovered from an ankle injury and the striker is expected to make the starting eleven.
