It was Kasey’s 24th career Coors Light Pole Award but was his first career NSCS pole at Martinsville Speedway in 17 races.
I’ve qualified decent at Martinsville before but never a pole, so this was a solid qualifying day,” said Kahne, whose previous best qualifying run at Martinsville was second, which came in 2005.
Kevin Harvick, who won last year’s spring race at Martinsville, earned the outside pole with a lap at 97.048 mph. He qualified just 0.016 seconds behind Kahne.
Four-time Martinsville winner Denny Hamlin (97.003 mph) will start third after running the exact same speed as Clint Bowyer. Hamlin won the tiebreaker for the position based on current owners’ points. Ryan Newman (96.988 mph) will start fifth.
Brian Vickers, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon and Joey Logano will start from positions 6 through 10, respectively.
