However, the odds should be heavily stacked in Southampton's favour. They face a relegated Coventry side who have won just once away from home in the Championship this season. The Sky Blues are also decimated by injury and will be forced to field a patched-up defence which could see 17-year-old Jordan Willis marking the division's top scorer, Rickie Lambert.
Fate could not have handed Saints more favourable opposition. Yet, as Hammers boss Sam Allardyce pointed out this week, they will be under enormous pressure to deliver, in front of a record St Mary's crowd of more than 32,300.
