The Sharks saw their six game winning streak come to an end at the hands of South Sydney on Monday night, and now face a Storm outfit which has won its past nine matches.
If losing to the Rabbitohs wasn’t difficult enough, Cronulla’s preparations for the clash against Melbourne have been dealt two blows.
Sharks Coach Shane Flanagan is recovering from emergency surgery and will not oversee his side’s clash against the Storm.
NSW captain Paul Gallen is also in severe doubt with a knee injury, and despite being named, is unlikely to play against Melbourne.
Gallen’s possible absence in particular would be a cruel blow to the Sharks fortunes. Cronulla need all the help they can get a Storm side with match winners across the park.
After a shaky start against the Panthers last week, Melbourne once again clicked into gear before securing a comfortable 44-10 victory.
Although Cronulla will provide a much sterner test, it remains to be seen if the Sharks can upstage the Storm without the services of Gallen.
