Japan v USA preview
Final showdown between the teams of USA and Japan is ready to come on 17 July 2011. Women team of USA kept dominating the media all over the World and made their way successfully to the final game by defeating France in last semifinal match by 3-1. Women team has completely dominated the opponents France in the semifinal match.
United States team dominated the match at early stages when Lauren Cheney scored a goal. France took advantage in 55th minute of the match when Sonia Bompastor scored a goal taking advantage of lose defense of US team. This took the match to tied situatuion but US team could not hold it anymore and continued attacking. Abby Wamback and Alex Morgan struck against French by scoring two back to back goals. These goals were scored in 79th and 82nd minutes respectively. Scoring two goals withing 5 minutes time boosted the morale of United States team and at the same time loosened up French team initially. But France started a good counter attack when Élodie Thomis and Élise Bussaglia attempted two tries in lesser time gap which were blocked. French team was already chocked with a surprise of two goals which resulted in loss of their semifinal match.
On the other hand Japan’s victory over Sweden in semifinal by 3-1 was another upset. Game started with a lot of thrill when Sweden struck a goal against Japan in 10th minute by a left foot shot of Josefine Öqvist. This was a morale raising goal but at the same time proved to be the last goal from Sweden side. Nahomi Kawasumi from Japan scored a goal in 19th minute and another unexpected goal from Homare Sawa of Japan took the score to 2-1. As this was not enough to puncture Sweden when in 64th minute Japan maintained domination and Nahomi Kawasumi scored another goal. This resulted in Japan’s victory over Sweden and they made it to FIFA World Cup Soccer Final 2011 for the first time.
