Sharks vs Newcastle Knights preview

Match Overview

The Sharks winning run of four was halted on Monday night at the hands of St George Illawarra in an entertaining local derby. Adding injury to insult is the loss of Matthew Wright to a neck injury and Jayson Bukuya to an ankle injury.

Despite this, they remain extremely confident of playing finals footy in 2011, and a win against the Knights would do there chances no harm.

The Knights have struggled in recent weeks on the back of injuries in key places. They were beaten by an under-strength Cowboys line-up at home, before the high-flying Manly convincingly beat them last weekend.

They do welcome back captain Kurt Gidley this week, but have lost in-form fullback Wes Naiqama. Quality hooker Isaac De Gois will come up against his former and future team mates for the first time on Saturday since signing with the Sharks for 2012 and beyond.
Key Stats

Antonio Kaufusi had a big game against the Eagles, running for 145m from his 14 runs, with 16 tackles, and breaking three tackles. If he can keep going forward and lay the platform for the Knights spine, then they are in for a big day.

At the Sharks, their right edge struggled considerably last week. Ben Pomeroy and Nathan Stapleton missed eight tackles between them, while edge back rowers Jayson Bukuya missed seven, and Jeremy Smith missed nine. This will be a definite attack area for the Knights this week.

The Knights will be out to win this one, and continue on into the finals, but where will they finish? We've done the numbers, and have previewed their run to the finals through the Glory Bound Rounds. Read it here.
