Arsenal v Udinese UEFA Champions League Preview

Match Information:

Arsenal face Udinese at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday

AUGUST 16, 2011. KICK-OFF 1945 BST

Arsenal have reached every Champions League group stage since 1999 but their attempts to qualify this season have been undermined after losing their captain.
Cesc Fabregas was speaking to journalists in Barcelona at the same time Arsene Wenger was addressing media at Arsenal's London Colney headquarters.
Wenger revealed hopes of Samir Nasri staying at the club though it appears the France midfielder will be on his way too, leaving Wenger two key players down with one game of the season gone.
Nothing has gone right for Wenger since Arsenal lost the Carling Cup final in February. Poor form meant they finished fourth instead of the third place that grants a path straight into the group stages of Europe's top club competition.
Losing to Udinese is almost unthinkable but Wenger will be wary against a team that finished above Roma and Juventus last season.
So the pressure is on for Wenger's players to lay the foundations for victory before finishing the job next week in Italy. Defeat would be a new low point in a troubled start to the season.

They have gone four away games without a win since beating FC Spartak Moskva 2-1 in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup group stage, but goalkeeper Samir Handanovic is confident his team can get a result against their Premier League opponents.

"I think it's always better to play the first leg away," he told larepunnlica.it.

"I'm not afraid of Arsenal, last year in the league we prepared well for games against the big sides and we did well, so you should always be optimistic. I know I am."

Arsenal squad: Szczesny, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Gibbs, Rosicky, Song, Ramsey, Arshavin, Gervinho, Chamakh, Fabianski, Walcott, Chamberlain, Djourou, Jenkinson, Frimpong, Bendtner.
