Dance Moms is a US reality television series that debuted on the Lifetime TV network on July 13, 2011. It is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Abby Lee Dance Company, and follows children's early careers in dance show business along with their mothers, who support them.Maddie, Melissa's daughter, is considered to be one of the best dancers in her age group. It was stated in the series that she was undefeated in all of her competitions in the year before the series began. She says she stays in the studio from four to ten o'clock each night and does not get home until eleven forty-five. She is very confident in herself and believes she is usually the best at everything she does, and is the best in the studio because she has won the most awards.Chloe, is considered to be Maddie's main competition in the studio. Her mother stated, "I wonder sometimes if Chloe got 1 twentieth of the attention Maddie gets, how good she would be." During the first season of the series she held the title Junior Miss Dance.Brooke, is the teenager of the group. Brooke is said to be the best acrobat of her age. During the first season Brooke is depicted as "struggling to find herself." They showed her not wanting to go to dance because "it's boring." She continually states she wants to hang out with her friends like every other teenager. However, according to her mother, she used to be Abby's favorite.

Paige, is Brooke's younger sister. Abby continually places her at the bottom of the pyramid. She has however performed in numerous dances other than the main group dance. She does not receive much air time compared to the other girls.Nia, has also been placed at the bottom of the pyramid in every episode to date. She is also not given much airtime compared to the other girls, but during rehearsals Abby is shown to yell at her. Nia however, feels she is getting better at her dance.Mackenzie, is Maddie's younger sister. She is only six years old and is not old enough to participate in some competitions. However, she is able to dance at a high level, so when she meets the age restrictions she competes with the large group of older girls.Vivi-Anne, is Cathy's daughter. She came from Candy Apple Dance Center where she was coached by her mother. She is not able to perform at the level of the other girls. Therefore, she mainly only performs solos and duets with Mackenzie. She's not passionate about dance but does it only to make her mother happy.
