Ted then narrates that whenever ”Uncle Marshall made a ‘sweeping declaration’ like that, you pretty much knew…

Shoot to the next day as Marshall barges into his and Lily’s apartment drunk screaming, “I did it again!” But, Ted narrates that “he’s getting ahead of himself.”

Shoot back to Marshall, Lily, Ted and Robin in Marshall and Lily’s apartment as Barney hobbles in on crutches. Lily asks him what happened. He explains that he’s meeting Nora for coffee and since she’s still mad at him he needs some “sympathy points” and since she likes musicals he’s going to tell her that he “fell off the stage during a performance of Man of La Mancha. He asks the gang’s opinion. Marshall replies, “Lose the cast.” Barney replies, “A one man show, brilliant.” Then Lily asks if Nora is mad at him for lying, he’s going to try to win her over with another lie? Barney replies, “You’re right. A neck brace.” He tosses the crutches, which he says he found in his lobby, which “must mean someone really needs them.” Then, Ted tells the gang that he’s started dating again.

Shoot to Ted at a newsstand and a girl recognizing him from the cover of a magazine. He introduces himself.

Shoot back to the gang at Marshall and Lily’s apartment as Ted says it was “a moment of pure destiny, the kind you can’t just manufacture…or so I thought.”

Shoot back to the newsstand as Ted is using the magazine with his face on the cover to pick up women.

Shoot back to the gang at Marshall and Lily’s apartment as Ted says, “16 moments of pure destiny in one day, 10 of those were single, of those 10, seven liked what they saw, of those seven, four were women, of those four, two gave me their real number and I have a date with both of them.” The gang claps. Then, Marshall gets a phone call from Garrison Cootes. Ted narrates that Cootes was the senior partner at Honeywell & Cootes, one of the biggest environmental law firms in America.

Shoot to a picture of Cootes (played by Martin Short) in an article about him in the magazine that Ted is on the cover on and Ted continues by saying how Marshall “would have given anything to work there.” Marshall freaks then yells at the gang to “calm down!” He answers the call.

Shoot to Cootes who explains that he would have gotten back to him sooner except he was “swamped, which is funny because I’m literally standing in a swamp.” He laughs. Marshall tells him that he loves the work his firm does. Cootes replies, “That’s a crock.” Marshall assures him he’s being truthful.

Shoot back to Cootes who explains that there’s a crocodile five feet away from him and then tells Marshall that he’s interested in hiring him. He then says that a credit, background check and a Google search has to be done and if nothing “unseemly” shows up, he’s hired.

Shoot to Marshall who’s ecstatic.

Shoot back to Cootes who says he has to run then laughs hysterically because he literally has to run because the crocodile is getting closer.
Ted narrates that the next night Barney met Nora for coffee “without the ridiculous leg cast.”How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all starts when Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), drops the bombshell that he's going to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realizes that he had better get a move on if he too hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a friend with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he's sure it's love at first sight, but destiny may have something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future, voiced by Bob Saget.
