MATCH PREVIEW
Nottingham Forest boss Steve McClaren said he and his side were too ashamed to show their faces around Nottingham following their disastrous defeat by hated local rivals Derby on Saturday.
The Rams played 89 minutes with 10 men yet still came from a goal behind to beat McClaren's supine side, leaving the former England manager with just one win from seven league games.
On the other hand, perennial crisis club Newcastle have made a serene start to the season and sit in the Champions League places.
Alan Pardew's side have quietly defied expectations and put together an impressive unbeaten run that they will be confident of extending at the City Ground at the expense of McClaren.
Forest
They have won the League Cup four times, in 1978, 1979, 1989 and 1990, and were runners-up in 1980 and 1992.
They have not reached the last 16 of the League Cup since the 2004-05 season.
The last time they knocked a top-flight club out of the League Cup was when they beat Manchester City in the fourth round in December 1993.
Forest have lost four successive league matches this season, and have lost twice at home - as many league defeats as they suffered at the City Ground in the whole of last season.
Newcastle
Newcastle are undefeated in eight league games dating back to May (W3, D5).
The Magpies have yet to score a first-half goal in the league this season.
They have never won the League Cup. They lost the 1976 final to Manchester City.
