I watched the crossover (call it the NCIS:LA premiere) last season between the two NCIS casts and really enjoyed it. Chris O'Donnell has grown up and yet, there is still that juvenile offender on the loose quality to him. Teaming him up with LL Cool J was a stroke of genius. They play off of each other so well. Pulling in Oscar winner Linda Hunt to play Hetty was a masterstroke. This show is well cast and the writing is solid. I have to disagree with other reviewers about Adam Jamal Craig and Daniela Ruah. I think they put in very solid performances as supporting team members. And Barrett Foa is perfect as the somewhat geeky technical assistance. All in all, a fun show to watch. I look forward to it marking as many seasons as it's forerunner, NCIS.Tonight the team was out to rescue a kidnapped man who, as it turns out, was not only kidnapped because of his teenage son, but also saved by the kid as well.

Meanwhile, back in the office, things felt a little crowded to me. Between Hunter still being around, Hetty trying to run things in the background, and the new chick working with Eric, it all was a bit much. I really felt myself wishing for the good old days where Hetty ruled all from her high roost, Eric and Nell were busy in the computer room acting as backup for the team, leaving Sam and Callen and Deeks and Kensi to run around and chase the bad guys.

It probably didn’t help that tensions were pretty high, too. Hunter sure isn’t making any efforts to be liked by anyone and that isn’t making Callen comfortable at all. He already doesn’t like new people so I couldn’t say that I blamed him at all for getting in Hunter’s face a few times.

Callen isn’t happy that people are still keeping secrets from him and when he goes to confront Hetty about it, I momentarily wondered if he would snatch that envelope and open it. But he instead chooses to go about learning who he on his own. I think that finding out from someone else may make him question any information he gets, so going about it himself is the one way he can be sure that nothing is being filtered or left out. It’s a bit frustrating, but I think he’ll be a lot more satisfied this way.

My favorite bits..

Nell’s annoyed little pointy finger at her headset when Sam thought she was talking to them.

Nell apparently turning into a mini Hetty. Okay so maybe a big Hetty, seeing as how Nell is bigger than Hetty.

“Is it me or is Nell starting to sound more like you know who?” Haha! See? Even Deeks agrees with me.

Deeks slapping his computer shut when Hetty appeared on it. Not that I blame him though. That would have scared the crap out of me, too.

Hunter won’t let Eric whistle? So not cool. She just lost points with me.

I’m confused. Is there a reason why Hunter feels like she needs to be a bitch?

“Hunter is not Hetty.” – I’m so with Callen on that right now.

“Maybe while we’re here, I should get you neutered.” Haha! Ouch, but still, damn funny.

Kensi reluctantly admitting that maybe the lip-reading software had gotten it right.

I’m with Callen. Hetty texting right then was totally uncanny timing.

Callen putting the phone in the glove box. Yeah right, like that would keep Hetty from knowing what they were up to. That woman knows everything.

Sam telling Callen that the (totally awesome) shoes brought out his eyes. Har.

Laughing at Sam sliding over the back of his car. Didn’t we just see Gibbs do that in NCIS? Are these guys reading each other’s mail?

“Okay, why couldn’t I go in as a tutor and you go in as a dog walker?”
“It’s called a mirror.” – Hahaha!

Deeks went to law school? No way!

Deeks claiming that growing up in LA led to him not learning to tie his shoes until age twelve. Ha, nice try.

“Hetty’s a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma..clutching a hand grenade.” – That just might be the most accurate description of her yet.

Callen pulling Hunter aside to give her a piece of his mind. Yeah! Go Callen.

Deeks in those white shorts. Need I say more?

Deeks mumbling at himself to lock it down when the wife started stretching in her little tennis skirt.

Nell tripping over herself when she saw Eric working with another cyber expert. Uh oh.

Laughing my arse off at Deeks playing dodgeball with the tennis ball launcher.

“You think this kid could fix my credit score?”
“The kid’s a computer wiz, not Harry Potter.”

That poor kid realizing that his father was kidnapped because of him.

“Status report.”
“Borderline panic, converging on controlled hysteria.” – Oh Eric, you slay me.

Oh no she di’nt! That.(stops self from using a very bad word) just called Nell a “mail boy?” Get her Nell!

Nell proving just why she wasn’t a mail boy and giving that woman the dirtiest look ever. Ha! Love it.

Really enjoying the way the team infiltrated that building. I just love it when they go all badass like that. No lights + smoke + lots of guns = Awesomeness.

“You just got a second chance to spend time with your boy. Don’t blow it.”

Kensi accusing the guys of being cheap bastards.

“Should I have invited her to come with us?”
“God no.” – LOL! That made me laugh so hard.

Sam telling everyone to let Callen go. Always love seeing little bits of how well those two know each other.

Callen swearing that he would find out who he was, with or without anyone’s help.

Ah, nice final blackout moment: Hetty agreeing with Callen.

What did you think of this episode of NCIS: Los Angeles? Got any favorite bits or least favorite bits of your own? I’d love to hear from you!
