Who doesn’t love Workaholics? Wait, you haven’t heard of Workaholics? Okay, fine, I’ll backtrack. Workaholics is a sitcom on Comedy Central revolving around three drunks who live and work together, each with their own distinct personality, though they are all equally conceited. If It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is Seinfeld on crack, then Workaholics is Seinfeld on speed. Take three guys who are basically morons that shouldn’t be allowed to live in society, and put them on their own self-righteous adventures that are bound for failure. The three guys consist of Adam, Ders, and Blake. Adam has the most twisted mind of all, and basically believes all should bow down before him and what he thinks are his impressive muscles. Ders believes himself to be the smartest and most sophisticated, and is obsessed with standing out and exceeding social stigma. Blake is the most relaxed and nicest of the three, but he’s quick to temper and never without an illegal substance in him. Blake is also recognizable for his excessively long hair.

So this week Workaholics has returned with the first episode of its second season, titled “Heist School.” The season is off to a good start, with witty humor and funny situations that the three morons are back to. Oddly enough, their workplace is only featured briefly, but never the less it’s fun to see them take off to a new place on a new adventure. After the guys take a closer look at their pay stubs and Ders has to explain to the other two exactly what taxes are, they decide that as tax payers they’re entitled to steal a dragon statue from a public park. However, their dragon is stolen by some teenage punks, and the guys are too drunk to chase after them. They decide the only proper course of action is to infiltrate the local high school as fake high school students to find out who took their dragon. Only the main three cast members appear (Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, and Anders Holm).
The episode is great from the beginning, and fans of the series will be immediately drawn back into the Workaholics universe, as if season one ended last week. It’s funny as always to see just how far the guys will go to get what they want, no matter how irrational the end goal is. The guys try to blend in as high school students (Adam wearing a Blink 182 shirt was great), and their interactions with the other students is hilarious. John Farley (You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Blonde and Blonder) makes a guest appearance as the school principal and is great.

As with most Workaholics episodes, the weakest part of the episode was the ending. I can’t help but feel like the writers are writing thirty page scripts and end up cutting off the last eight minutes. The endings always seem to wrap up out of nowhere when it seems like there should have been a little more. Hopefully one of the improvements with the season will be better and more clever conclusions to each episode. For me at least, it just felt like the writers knew how to continue advancing the story of the episode, but built it up so much they didn’t know how to bring it back down.

Regardless of my criticism, the episode was great and assures me we’re in for another season just as good as the first, if not better. If you don’t watch the show already you should check it out. Workaholics airs Tuesday nights on Comedy Central.
