Why? Because it involved the destruction of a family, which was entertaining for some, but sad and painful for others to watch.

The premiere began with a taste of the infamous brawl that took place at new cast member Melissa Gorga's son's christening, but cut quickly back to a week earlier to show what lead to the fight between the Gorgas, the Giudices, and just about everyone else in attendance. Unless you haven't been keeping up with the gossip, Teresa is not in good standing with her brother Joey and his wife Melissa. Even Teresa and Joey's first cousin (and newcomer to the series) Kathy Wakile has some issues with Teresa as well, but they aren't as bad as the bad blood between Teresa, Joey and Melissa.

Within the first hour, we kept hearing Melissa and Joey give their side of the story and Teresa giving her side of the story; but despite both stating their claims and bleeding their hearts out, at the end of the night, you really don't know who to believe. To be honest, it doesn't really matter whose side you are on, because the end result was a messy explosion that was highly uncalled for when it is all said and done. Seriously.

Between the constant shots of Teresa running around her mansion trying to get ready for the christening while Joe (who was not even interested in going to the event) slouched around the house and Joey Gorga downing drink after drink at the christening (while his in-laws talked funky about his sister), you knew the writing was on the wall for something drastic to happen. However, that particular editing also could be seen as a way to give the viewers either the chance to decide for themselves who was in the wrong or just a way to come to the conclusion that no matter who heart was broke the most, the fight was straight up bananas with no founding whatsoever. Again, you don't know who to blame, but (again) does it even matter?

On the flip side of the premiere, we were reintroduced to the Manzos, which from first glance was pretty boring. Although, when you look at the episode as a whole, you wanted to see more of Caroline and Jacqueline as they dealt with their family issues in a civilized and loving manner. When you look at Caroline tearing up about the prospect of her adult sons leaving the nest finally compare to Melissa and Teresa's drama, you can't help but respect Caroline's (and to some extent Jacqueline's) situation even more as they get the concept of family and all that it entails. It's this blatant contrast between the "thick as thieves" Manzos/Lauritas and the warring Gorgas/Giudices that will dominate this season of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, and it could possibly lead to some conflict with those two factions as well. I pray it doesn't head that way, though.

At the end of the premiere, I was left stunned, numb, and appalled at what went down that gathering, which is a shock in itself, because that's what we love about the show and the Real Housewives franchise itself. However, think back to previous installments/episodes of the series. The most cringe worthy moments happen between the family members: Vicki's impending divorce from Donn on Orange County, the collapse of NeNe and Gregg Leakes's marriage from Atlanta, the argument between the Kim and Kyle Richards in the Beverly Hills finale... When the drama is between the random Housewives on the show, it's fodder for great reality TV moments. But when the fighting involves family members, it becomes a bit... uncomfortable, and last night's brawl at the christening was no exception.

In conclusion, I'm not on Teresa's side and I'm not on Melissa's side, because as I stated last fall when news broke on this debacle, both parties are in the wrong when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, because that fight did not have to go down, especially at the christening of a newborn child. With that said, I'm pretty scared to see what the rest of The Real Housewives of New Jersey season three has to offer... unless we see a truce between Teresa and Joey at the end of the dark, twisted tunnel ahead.

What were your thoughts? But please, try to be as nice about it as possible when commenting...
