On the latter's aptly-titled "Naked," Jess will walk in on Nick in his birthday suit, right before he leaves on a date with an attractive coworker played by Lake Bell. You can imagine what this does to the guy's already low self-confidence, can't you? Elsewhere, Winston brushes up on pop-culture references.

"Cece (Hannah Simone) comes to visit and Schmidt might freak out just a little bit, might get a little over excited. David Neher might be coming back, who was fantastic in the pilot playing Benjamin. He might be coming back for the old birthday episode." Jake adds: "And he might have made us laugh so hard that we stopped the table read a couple of times."
The uses of "might" about ten times during that discussion lead us to believe that all this is happening. You don't fool us, you handsome men!

Tonight, Jess (Zooey Deschanel) walks in on Nick while he's naked (and doing an odd type of dance), and she doesn't exactly seemed wowed by his nude physique, so his confidence will be completely shot. And apparently it'll only go downhill from there. "Right now Nick is going through somewhat of a nervous breakdown a little bit and I would like to see where he thinks he's going to land, and I hope it's a crazy landing," Jake says. "I would like to see what he wants to do with his life and what he thinks is a cool response to his nervous breakdown. And it wouldn't be bad if he gets with Jess too, a little bit."

See how he slid that last part in there? That sneaky bastard. Don't toy with us. We Other fans are clamoring for Nick and Jess to stop the back-and-forth and just fall in love already! Speaking of love, Winston will also be falling in love…with himself. "My character comes to terms with who he is," Lamorne reveals. "He's an ex-basketball player who can't play anymore; he's not that good. There are better black dudes out there, and so he's left back with his guy friends along with Jess and Cece. They help him realize who he should be. He's a really great guy and I think he's going to end up being a motivational speaker in future episodes or a doctor. Or he's going to date billions of women all across the globe."

We like the third option. Finally, the boys unveiled the pièce de résistance regarding the birthday episode: Max Greenfield in a fat suit. "I'm going to be in a fat suit," Max laughs. "It's part of the birthday episode. You might get to see a flashback from Schmidt when he was heavyset." Jake jumps in: "Schmity at 18 was a little tubby."

Well, Newbies, we're back after nearly a month of baseball and X Factor. Did you miss everyone's favorite quirky huh-roine? Have you been counting down the minutes to the return of Jess? Did your life feel entirely too whimsical and unjudged without Nick's side eyes? Did you find yourself saying and/or douche-y things just to contribute to your own Douchebag Jar? If so, I won't carry on any longer. The Jess has been suppressed for long enough.
Most of the episode centered on Nick's attempt to get back into the swing of things since achieving closure with Caroline. He set up his first date with a coworker named Amanda (Lake Bell). At least he thought he did. It was hard to tell because, "Sometimes she's so ironic, that I think she's being serious" -- particularly in regard to the Steve Miller Band. While Nick easily rebuffed Schmidt's sexy date suggestions (which all involved the dubious notion of "close-up magic"), Jess's overreaction to Amanda's hotness (and Schmidt's advice to "suck in the gut") psyched him out as he prepped for this ambiguous get-together. Now, while your average person mentally pregames a first date by Googling themselves, hitting the gym, or just, you know, taking a nap, Nick got pants-around-ankles nekkid to reggae music. It takes all kinds, folks.
Since Jess has no boundaries, it was only a matter of time before she walked in on Nick and expelled a banshee-like shriek-laugh before hightailing it out of his room. What would be the next logical step for most people? Deny, deny, deny! What was Jess's response? Blab about Nick's "bing-bong" to the roommates! In song! With funny accents! First, she played off the whole incident with a thugcent ("Ain't no thang"), then decided maybe it would be less uncomfortable to discuss "The peen what I saw" in a British accent. At this point, Nick tried to quickly exit the house, only to be met by a French affectation: "Bonjour le peen!" As is generally the case with Jess, that which was meant to diffuse the awkwardness of course only amplified it by a million. No less so when she looked down at Nick's underbits and said of his impending date, "The adventure begins!"
