Both sides hover just above the drop zone having struggled to pick up points of late sharing the record of just won one from their last seven games.
While Warnock has more points in the bag, Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill may be the more confident coming into the match with his side performing better recently.
Since taking over he has seen his side produce a late fightback to beat rock-bottom Blackburn Rovers and almost earn a draw against Tottenham last time out although travel sick Sunderland have been poor on the road with just one win so far.
QPR are no better at home with just the solitary win over neighbours Chelsea to their name at Loftus Road this season but more recently have only managed a draw against West Brom since their win at Stoke a month ago.
Team news
Warnock will give a late fitness test to Anton Ferdinand who has a hamstring injury and Danny Gabbidon who has a gashed leg while Jay Bothroyd is struggling with a knee problem.
Kieron Dyer is undergoing foot surgery and will not feature again this season for the Rangers boss while Rob Hulse's knee and Brian Murphy's calf injury rule them both out.
The mercurial midfielder Abdel Taraabt has impressed when he has come on as a substitute of late when other's legs have tired a little and could well continue that role and start the game on the bench.
For his part, O'Neill will have to make a late call on whether striker Connor Wickham can play after he fell awkwardly at White Hart Lane and has fluid on his knee
It is not all bad news for the Sunderland boss though as he may be able to call on Phil Bardsley who has had a thigh strain and Wes Brown who has been ill.
Longer term the Northern Irishman will be hoping his ranks will be swelled by the return of keeper Craig Gordon and striker Fraizer Campbell from their respective knee injuries, although Michael Turner is still some way off full fitness.
