In a late night thriller on Laver Novak Djokovic survived a scare against Lleyton Hewitt. The first two sets were rather one sided and it seemed at 3-0 in the 3rd Djokovic would walk it, however Hewitt stirred by the vociferous home support managed to break back and take the 3rd set. The 4th set was level until 3-2 when Djokovic broke and held to 5-2, Hewitt briefly rallied but Djokovic sealed the win in 2 hours 56 mins. There had been speculation before the match that Hewitt would announce his retirement on court after the game, more to follow.
