What has happened with Goteborg?! The giant from the past has lined up three consecutive losses and now the have to fight against an opponent with a good start. In their home game with Helsingborg they were the better team with almost a permanent presence in the rivals’ box. Despite the good moving of the ball Goteborg lost receiving two goals in the second half. That team with this kind of play doesn’t deserve another defeat and we support the gueast in that clash.
AIK with the crazy Bangura (even Chelsea and Bayern Munish are interested in him) is still without a loss, but the team also has its weaknesses. The good news for the coach Andreas Alm is that Per Karlsson and Helgi Danielson are fit, but it is not sure if the trusted defender (Karlsson) is ready to play all the 90 minutes.
Before the weekend games; the hosts were in the 3rd place on the table, but now they have dropped to 5th courtesy of a couple of wins for competitors (Helsingborg & Kalmar). They face a tough challenge hosting the leaders, but will take heart in having a considerably improved home form of late.
Gothenburg are flawless at home with 7 wins out of 7, but on the road they are quite vulnerable with a 2-1-3 form so far. Yet again, they have lost none of the last 3 on the travel, including a cup fixture and 2 league games.
The situation is simple. AIK desperately need a win to bring themselves within touching distance with the leaders. 5 points separate the two as we speak, so 3 points for AIK means the gap will shrink to just 2.
However, it’s not just AIK that wants a win here. Elfsborg are also lurking and hoping Gothenburg will drop points, as Elfsborg themselves are just a point behind the top Allvenskan squad.
So, the pressure is on the visitors in that sense, but it has never been easy to predict the outcome of this fixture in the recent past (1-1-1 in the last 3 seasons).
