Rovers stunned Castleford Tigers 23-16 in the previous round, but Hepworth is aware a similar performance won’t be good enough tonight.

Wigan are second in Stobart Super League and won 56-12 at fifth-placed Hull just five days ago.

“It’s going to be a tough challenge for the boys,” acknowledged Hepworth, who has top-flight experience with Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers and signed a two-year contract extension earlier this week.

Occasion

“But it’s at home on Sky TV, Wigan will bring a decent crowd with them and we’ll have good support. It should be a good occasion and all the lads are looking forward to it, but we know it’ll be even tougher than it was against Castleford.

“We beat Cas and that was brilliant for the club. A lot of things went into that, it was a local derby, there was a lot of ex-Castleford players in our team and a lot of players want to get into Super League with Featherstone, so they wanted to prove themselves.

“All that played a big part in it, but we are up against a good team who put 50 points on another Super League side last weekend.“It is a big challenge, but we are going to go out and give it our best shot and see what happens.”

Rovers have lost the element of surprise following the televised win over Tigers. Hepworth knows after that eye-catching result there is no danger of Wigan taking them lightly.

“They will come with a full-strength team, but we’ll hopefully rise to the challenge,” said the versatile loose-forward.

“We want to put in a good performance and it is chance to show what we can do. A lot of work is going into things at the moment off the field, regarding the stadium and things like that and that’s good for the club.

“The community side of things is going well and Daryl is doing a great job as coach. It’s good to be getting a bit of publicity, being on Sky TV and being able to show what Featherstone Rovers is all about.

“Daryl talked about belief before we played Cas. There’s a belief in the camp that we can go out and compete against good teams.

“Hopefully we can go out for 80 minutes and put in a performance that shows what we are all about – and then kick on for the rest of the season.”

Powell described the mood in Rovers’ camp as “apprehensive”, but he said: “We will be ready to go.....
